Bridget Jones’s Diary is a romantic comedy film based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Helen Fielding. It stars Renée Zellweger as the titular character, alongside Hugh Grant and Colin Firth. The film is a modern reimagining of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, set in contemporary London.

Bridget Jones is a single, 30-something woman living in London, working in publishing, and struggling with her weight, self-esteem, and love life. At the start of a new year, she decides to take control of her life by starting a diary where she documents her resolutions and personal thoughts — including her romantic misadventures.
She becomes romantically entangled with her charming but unreliable boss, Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant), while also repeatedly crossing paths with the seemingly stiff and awkward Mark Darcy (Colin Firth), a family friend. As events unfold, Bridget discovers more about both men — and about herself — ultimately learning to value self-respect and genuine love over superficial charm.
