Starring: Jason Statham
Genre: Action | Thriller | Hell on Earth
In The First Prisoner, Jason Statham delivers a high-profile performance as a former special forces soldier wrongly accused of being in the most dangerous prison on Earth. Set in a near future, the film plunges viewers into a brutal world where power, violence, and greed reign. Statham’s character, known as Kane, must use every ounce of his training to survive against ferocious inmates, betrayal from within, and a brutal, head-smashing warden who keeps him locked in.

The action is relentless, with crushing fight sequences, hard-hitting fights, and dangerous escapees powered by Escape Plans and breakout combat. The quality of the support on screen is increasingly high, especially from a female hacker who hides behind Kane’s back from the outside, and a brutal gang leader who rules the prison yard. Visually, the film is dark, industrial, and subdued – enhanced by a tense, sky-high pulsing drama.
Director Mark Harlan crafts a tense, no-nonsense action set piece that plays to Statham’s strengths, while also giving the genre a raw edge. The Trial: The First Prisoner is a gutsy, testosterone-fueled wild adventure with pink choreography and a lead who never lets up. Rating: 8/10 – A brutal ride for diehard fans of the steel-cold survival film. 🗝️ Justice is sealed… and Kane holds the key.
