Resident Evil 9 (2025) takes the survival horror series into new territory as the fight for humanity’s survival escalates to a global scale. After the events of Resident Evil 8: Village (2021),

the world is still recovering from the devastating spread of the bioweapons unleashed by the Umbrella Corporation and other shadow organizations. However, a new, more dangerous threat emerges from the ruins: a new virus strain known as V-Alpha has been unleashed, more contagious and lethal than any previous outbreak.
This time, Ethan Winters (if he returns, or in the case of a new protagonist, Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine) must fight to prevent the total collapse of humanity. The V-Alpha virus spreads at an alarming rate, and a powerful new bioterrorist faction known as The Abyss has taken control of vast areas of the world, unleashing a wave of mutated creatures and monstrous bio-organic weapons (BOWs) on a global scale.
The new game will feature an expanded cast of characters, including Chris Redfield (with a larger role), Jill Valentine, and Leon S. Kennedy who have been drawn back into the conflict. Together, they must track down the origins of the V-Alpha virus, stop The Abyss, and prevent a global outbreak that could lead to the extinction of humanity. Along the way, they uncover dark secrets, betrayals, and the true reason behind the global resurgence of bio-terrorism.
